Realistically, we understand that most households do not have a fulltime maid service coming to their home every day. However, that doesn’t mean you couldn’t get some help from us as if we were there. Here are some home tidying tips that will help you stay on top of the cleaning needs of your home until your next scheduled cleaning by Crystal Cleaning!

Home Tidying Tip #1: Make the Bed

make the bed

Making the bed creates a big difference in how tidy the room looks. The best part is it only takes a couple of minutes to accomplish. Plus, it starts the day off well. Who doesn’t love climbing into a made bed at the end of the day? Simplify your bedding as much as possible, and ditch any sheets or pillows you don’t use. In this case, less really is more.

Tip #2: Keep Up on the Laundry

Depending on how many loads you need to do, putting in at least one load a day during the work-week helps you maintain a tidy home. Get in the habit of putting a load of laundry in first thing in the morning. If you work outside of the house, use a delay feature, or start the wash as soon as you get home. Be sure you save some time to dry it, fold it, and put it away.

Tip #3: Follow the 80/20 Rule

These home tidying tips shouldn’t make you feel that your home needs to be super clean all the time. Therefore, follow the 80/20 rule. The 80/20 rule means to be satisfied with 80% of the tidying up you can do and leave the other 20% of the detailed cleaning to us.

Tip #4: A 15-Minute Evening Cleaning Routine

Make it a routine to do a family 15-minute nightly clean-up. The chore doesn’t seem so bad when everyone chips in and helps during these 15 minutes. Set a time and focus on the top cleaning priorities. If you have kids, make them clean their rooms and any items that are theirs in the kitchen or living room. During this time, it’s wise to tidy-up the kitchen or fold and put away laundry. Decluttering spaces also makes for a tidier and more organized home.

Tip #5: Keep Basic Cleaning Supplies Close By

Stock the house with necessary cleaning supplies. For instance, keep a spray bottle of diluted white vinegar, microfiber cloths, and other essentials close by in the kitchen and bathrooms. Complete simple tasks as you see the need – most of them take only a minute or two – and most likely, you will only need a bi-monthly residential cleaning by us

Tip #6: Never Leave a Room Empty-Handed

If you pick up as you go, this habit can make a massive difference in the general tidiness of your home. As you move from one room to another, try to do a quick scan to see if there is anything that you can take with you that belongs where you are going. Take what you will have time to put away – moving a pile from one room to another without actually putting anything away doesn’t help you out much. It can be a couple of dirty dishes that you put in the dishwasher or some laundry that needs to be put away upstairs. If you form this habit, you declutter and keep your spaces as tidy as possible.

Overall, these six home tidying tips should become habits. It’s a new year, so there’s no better time than now to start thinking about picking at least one and starting it now. And when you get a chance, give us a call so we can help you keep your house crystal clean!
